This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the core team to construct strategic energy projects in the Northwest Territories that support Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets. The core responsibility of this role is to manage a set of transmission capital projects of varying size ($2M-60M), owned by our mid-sized power utility customers.

This work requires collaboration with the project and client teams and is overseen by our Director of Project Delivery. Projects include 50 to 200 km greenfield transmission line projects, which connect remote communities to the grid rather then diesel generators. The core responsibilities include:

  • Follow an established project delivery process to ensure the work is carried out in the most cost-effective manner using project management principles
  • Plan and manage projects through planning, design, execution and closeout.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor project progress using Project Management Plans, Charters, risk assessments/risk registry, schedule, budget, procurement plan, quality plan, responsibility chart, and communication plan
  • Report progress and present status updates to senior management among others
  • Facilitate meetings with stakeholders
  • Participate in site assessments both during planning and construction
  • Direct your multi-disciplinary team including all engineering, procurement, stakeholder engagement, environmental, indigenous relations, properties, as well as your internal support team
  • Oversee project procurement management, including coordinating the procurement of external supply-install contractors through a formal bidding and award process
  • Ensure that internal and external resources with appropriate skill sets are assigned work and instructions to complete their scope of work
  • Ensure standards and requirements are met through reviews and quality assurance tests
  • Analyze risks and opportunities


Who we are looking for:

  • Have the following credentials:
    • Bachelor’s degree, or Diploma of Technology, in a relevant discipline of Engineering
    • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or Applied Science Technologist (AScT), in good standing at a Canadian jurisdiction
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) considered an asset
  • 20-30 years managing infrastructure projects, with at least 4 years of experience working on transmission projects
  • Strong presentation, communication, conflict resolution and stakeholder management skills to engage others, build consensus and resolve issues, and brief senior management
  • Working knowledge of a variety of engineering disciplines, finance, and procurement to provide technical coordination and leadership in a multi-disciplinary project
  • Able to manage a high volume of work with multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate directly and professionally in all situations
  • Outstanding organization and leadership abilities; aptitude in problem solving
  • Excellent writing, speaking, meeting facilitation, and negotiation abilities in English
  • Excellent use of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and project management tools (MS Project)
