Today, June 23rd, is International Women in Engineering day; a day to raise the profile of women in engineering and focus the attention on the career opportunities available to women. Maven Consulting would like to celebrate some of our amazing female team members who work with us and help progress the industry with their contributions.

Maraika De Groot, P.Eng., MMIE – Manager of Talent & Operations

Maraika is a geological engineer who has a passion for people and problem solving. At Maven she leads our human resources, technology, safety, and facilities, along with managing client projects.

As a design engineer Maraika worked on a number of tailings facility projects in Canada and Internationally. Her favourite site experience is drilling in the Dominican Republic, where not only did she learn to log soil but also how to communicate in Spanish.

Maraika has given back to engineering through organizing a young professional conference and as an executive committee member on engineering society.

Gillian Fletcher, EIT, PMP – Project Manager

Originally from the United Kingdom, Gillian moved to Canada in 2019 and started at Maven as a Junior Project Manager. Throughout her time at Maven, Gillian has earned her Project Management Professional’ (PMP) certification and has worked her way up to being an Intermediate Project Manager.

She has 5 years of experience in the construction and power industries, a Master’s of Engineering in Aerospace Engineering, and a Master’s of Science in Environmental Policy and Management. She is an extremely valued member of our project management team.

Shonagh Baillie – Construction Inspection Team Lead

Shonagh started at Maven in 2015 as a civil construction inspector and was recently promoted to Construction Inspection Team Lead where she manages Maven’s team of inspectors.

Shonagh’s secret sauce is her can-do attitude and excellent communication skills. She builds strong connection with clients, adding value where she spots efficiencies. She supports her team through strong 1-on-1 training and bringing forward their perspective.

Over Shonagh’s career, her expertise has been largely within construction of power generation and distribution systems for heavy industries such as Oil and Gas.

Kylie Ip, Co-op Student – Project Coordinator

Kylie is a third-year Civil Engineering Student at the University of British Columbia. She’s working with Maven as a summer student, supporting our suite of project managers with preparing documentation and procurement.

She is a Co-Captain of the UBC Seismic Design Team, which recently won 1st place at the 2021 Annual Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition. Kylie is extremely diligent, efficient, and helps make the team look good with all her work behind the scenes. We already know that come September, her presence will be missed.

Maven is excited to continue encouraging women to study and work in the engineering field. We are proud to be Great Place Certified with special recognition for employee inclusivity and mental health awareness. Head over to our Careers page to learn more about our company culture.
